Something new is here — and it’s been a long time coming.
Timespan Studios is the formal launch of my multidisciplinary creative practice, bringing together music composition, field recording, photography, and experimental film under one roof. If you’ve followed my work through timespans.art, this is the next chapter.
The artwork lives at the intersection of sound, image, time, and nature. Expect strange films — abstract montages, art installations, narrative pieces — built from original music and original imagery. The sonic palette stays wide: electronica, synthesizers, percussion, ambient textures. In contrast to my artwork a fifteen years ago, the visual focus shifts further into digital arts, although painting, drawing, and writing remain the underlying grammar of how I think through images and ideas. Nature and environmental themes run through most of it, alongside infusions of fiction, futurism, and the occasional science fiction detour.
Timespan Studios is where creative projects get made. What it is not: a teaching or workshop forum. That work happens through my classes at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, part of the Massachusetts State University System. If you want to develop your own creative practice in a formal academic setting, that’s the place — reach out to the college directly.
The first major project is already in production.
The AI/viary is a critical wildlife film and original soundtrack that collides documentary bird photography with software algorithms and artificial intelligence. It’s strange, it’s vexing, and it has something to say about the contemporary world. Arriving early April 2026 — right in time for Earth Day.

About the work: Gregory Scheckler creates sound and image works through Timespan Studios, a multidisciplinary practice based in Williamstown, Massachusetts. His work explores temporal processes, atmospheric phenomena, and the resonant relationships among nature, imagination, sound, and image. Past projects include the Kymatology series investigating wave phenomena along Lake Michigan, the film Sky Stories documenting cloud formations and atmospheric events as a lens on climate change, and numerous albums of ambient and experimental music. Timespan Studios embraces slow observation and nature study as foundational to artistic inquiry.
